Kenneth Stubbs: Paintings and Drawings

A retrospective exhibit of paintings and drawings by noted artist Kenneth Stubbs will be featured by the Provincetown Art Association and Museum from September 27 through October 27, 1991.

Stubbs' long association with Provincetown, over the course of four decades, began in the early 1930s when he came from Washington, D.C., to study with E. Ambrose Webster, a major figure in Provincetown art who was an early proponent of modern art and who exhibited in the landmark 1913 Armory Show.

Stubbs' was a distinctive painting style, using flat or semi-flat patterns with bright colors and faceted forms combined to give the full work a sense of motion or action. His work combines solid skills in drawing and painting with strong interests in traditional and modern art and is characterized by intellect, dry humor and wit.

A gallery talk on Stubbs' art will be presented on Sunday, September 29, at 3 p.m. by Frank Getlein, well known for his years as art critic and commentator for National Public Radio and Public Television.

Gallery hours: Daily noon to 5 p.m. and Friday and Saturday also 7 p.m. to 10p.m. Opening reception, Friday, September 27, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
