Exhibit at Watkins

The ninth annual exhibit of the Artists Guild of Washington, now at the Watkins Gallery on the American University campus, is the most steadfastly even of that group's that we have seen. There is no one work that suffers by comparison to the others, as there has been in the past.

Most of the works are in the contemporaneous, near abstract vein. There is also some sculpture by Marilee Shapiro, Rowland Lyon, Mazim Elias, Jane Love and Adella.

If any basketball fans are included in this readership, we suggest a second look at Kenneth Stubbs' "Under the Basket." He has caught something in that straining tension under the basket that conveys the hectic scene brilliantly.

There is constant movement in the painting, a tribute to the fine way Stubbs has organized his figures and space.
